Markets are one of the great pleasures of a stay in the Luberon: every morning of the week, somewhere nearby, a village square fills with local cheese, olives, fruit, bread, flowers and lavender. Here is our day-by-day guide to the markets within easy reach of Villa Bonnieux.
Bonnieux, Friday morning: our favourite
We are not biased, of course. Every Friday morning the market winds through the streets of Bonnieux, seven minutes’ walk from the villa: stalls of local produce, cheese, olives and flowers, with the valley and Mont Ventoux as the backdrop. Pick up lunch, then stop for a coffee in the village.
Our tip: go early, before the heat and the crowds, and walk down rather than drive, because parking in the village can fill quickly on market day.

The markets we love most
Bonnieux (Friday)
Our village market, a short walk from the villa. Small, friendly and beautifully set.
Lourmarin (Friday, and Tuesday evenings in season)
One of the prettiest markets in Provence, winding through the village streets and around the cafés.
Apt (Saturday)
The big one: around 300 stalls through the old town, and the place to stock up for the week.
L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue (Sunday)
Food and flowers along the canals, plus the famous antiques and brocante dealers.
Coustellet (Sunday)
A farmers’ market where producers sell their own fruit, vegetables, cheese and wine, from April to December.
Gordes (Tuesday)
A market in one of France’s most beautiful villages, with views to match.
Market tips
Most markets run in the morning and start packing up around lunchtime, so arrive early for the best choice and the easiest parking. Bring a basket and some cash, as not every stall takes cards. Summer evening markets are more relaxed, with food stalls and music.
